Nike Virtual Closet

Since 2019 we've been instrumental in helping Nike define their role within the digital collectable space.
Virtual Closet was an exploration with Nike C-Suite leadership and innovation teams, into how a user might purchase a digital sneaker, and how they then display their collection.

Intro

The world of digital collectables and NFTs has exploded in the last year or two, creating new revenue streams for brands and artists. From the buzz of NBA Topshot to Beeple selling his work at Christie's; owning collectables and moments on the blockchain is becoming mainstream.

But what is Nike's role in this space? What is the value to the consumer? Since 2019 we have been working directly with Nike's innovation teams in Portland to define just that.  

The Brief

NFT's and digital collectables such as NBA Top shot currently focus on the purchase and sale aspect of digital collectables.

But how would users and sneaker heads display, showcase and experience their collections? Focusing around real-world behaviours of COP, UNBOX, STOCK and ROCK.

The Solution

After a few weeks of concepting and workshops, we landed on the idea of building out a fully customisable digital closet that users can share and invite friends to visit.

From etherial landscapes to the ultimate trophy cabinet, how you display your collection is up to you. But we designed the experience with as much opportunity for Nike to make the closet space as creative as possible.

Working with the Nike innovation teams, we designed a full end-to-end experience touching on all the key real world moments of Cop, Unbox, Stock and Rock.

Cop – How the digital sneaker is earned or gifted to you.
Unbox – The "You got 'em" moment where your digital sneaker is revealed.
Stock – Your closet. An explorable 3D environment where you can select a number of sneakers to showcase.
Rock – How you share your space. We built a message wall in to the environments where visitors could leave notes or gifts. As well as a way of placing your sneakers into AR environments.
